How Working Out Can Treat Anxiety
Working out releases endorphins – or “happy chemicals,” that for many people serve as a replacement for buying anti-anxiety pills (like Valium) or antidepressants (like Prozac). Of course, working out can also help you lose weight (which can be a source of anxiety), so if your weight is getting you down, a combination of diet pills AND working out could be your perfect de-stressing solution.
When people feel pent up anger or frustration, this is what often turns into
anxiety. If people find a natural and healthy outlet for their anxiety, then it’ll help put them at ease when anxiety strikes, because they’ll know that there’s an easy solution.
Here are some tips to help you treat anxiety through working out:
- Keep a pair of running shoes at work. This way, if you need to let off steam, or feel an anxiety attack coming on, you can get full release by lacing up and heading out, ASAP. Jogging is a great way to tone muscles, lose weight, and de-stress.
- Have sex. Yes, sex is exercise, and if you want to talk about endorphins and happy hormones and inducing relaxation, then sex would be your physical activity of choice.
- Walk around the block to clear your head. Few tasks need such immediate attention that they’d suffer if you took five minutes to walk around the block. If you’re feeling tense and anxious, simply drop what you’re doing and walk around the block. Fresh air helps, as does the release of oxygen into your muscles as you walk briskly along.
- List weights. Putting all your energy into a focused (and heavy) goal is a good way to take focus away from anxiety and towards accomplishing a challenging feat.
