Exercise Your Sex Drive
It is well know that exercise helps to keep your heart healthy, your body slim and your emotional state calm, but did you know that exercise is a powerful aphrodisiac too? Yes, though you may not feel so sexy after a major workout, you may be in for a surprise if you feel in the mood for you-know-what. You see, new research suggests that along with all of the other health benefits you get from exercise, it can also have a libido booster effect on your sex life. It is not because you are getting stronger but rather it has to do with the release of endorphins in the brain (as a result of physical exertion) that influence how we feel. Endorphins are the same neuro-chemicals that cause the well known “runner’s high” or the sense of exhilaration that comes from skiing down a mountain or after an intense aerobics class. And these chemicals may also be linked to the release of hormones that charge your sex drive. Research has shown that women who exercise regularly tend to have more active sex lives, are more easily aroused, and reach orgasm more quickly than those who don’t work out.
But if you are not a gym buff, don’t despair. There are less vigorous forms of exercise which take another approach. Instead of stimulating brain chemicals to rev up the sex drive, yoga and tantra offer you postures which can help resolve specific sexual problems. Some work by stimulating blood flow to the genital area and others are directed toward maximizing sexual performance and satisfaction. And even if exercise has no appeal from East or West, make a run for the dance floor and get the juices flowing just the same. Whether a tango or mambo, moving to the beat is an age-old, socially sanctioned mating ritual that can add spice to your sex life and get your sex drive into fifth gear.
